• Real leather Tag – If you can afford, the best option is to go for Branded Leather jacket, Check the care composition label. No brand will cheat you there. Look at the label and if it states 100% genuine or real leather you got the right product.

Leather Look alike will be states as leather look alike / Fake leather / vegan leather/ made material/PU. Even if it does not state anything it means its fake, as any leather product will proudly declare it.  Fake leather is much – much cheaper than the real leather.

• Physical Test –
  1. Well its need little bit of knowledge and study to physically identify real leather but still with few basic tips you can identify. Leather is natural product, It has a very particular natural leather smell which you can relate to. Fake leather will in general will have very intense PU (poly Urethane) Or say plastic like smell.
  2. Real leather is natural product made from animal skin; hence leather will note be completely uniform through your jacket. The grain pattern will be slightly different, may have some defects blemishes and imperfection. These can appear because of stretch marks, growth marks, veins, insects bite, scars. So don’t worry little bit of imperfection is a good sign. May also have some shade variation The grain pattern for fake leather will be totally uniform.
  3. Touch and feel of leather and fake leather are different. Real leather would feel more real and natural and have in general elastic character. Fake leather will feel artificial and rubberier in touch and feel.
  4. With so much advancement the top layer look and feel can be achieved, but back side is still not achievable. The real leather back side will have natural skin fibers, but fake leather will always have fabric or synthetic look. If you can manage to get a look on the back side, pls do check.
  5. And last but not the least. This is best practice if still you have issue. Get hold of a small bit of leather (may be from puller tie/ main label or some time they have small swatch attached to the tag). Burn it, real leather will burn as if skin is burn, but fake will burn as if plastic is burning with rubber or plastic smell.
